Born in remote village – Poorigali of Mandya district, Dr Kukke Subramanya was a bright student from childhood. Empathy, Kindness, Pursuit for Knowledge, values taught by pious parents, had an ambition to become a Doctor so that he could be an instrument in the service of mankind. Determined and clear about the goal of life, pursued his Primary and high school education in Kannada medium and government school in the rural area. He passed out the District Topper in SSLC and completed his PUC in Marimallappa’s Educational Institutions at Mysore.
Later, he moved to Bangalore and completed his M.B.B.S at Ambedkar Medical College from Bangalore University. Securing 8th rank in the Post Graduate Medical examination, he joined M.S. (Ophthalmology) at Mysore Medical College. He passed out of the college as the Topper in Mysore University, procuring the prestigious Dr M C Modi Gold Medal in 1997.
Driven by the penchant to serve humanity, especially the rural areas, Dr Kukke Subramanya started Sindu Eye Clinic at Mysore, along with peripheral branches at Nanjanagud and his native Taluk Malavalli – all in 1997.
In the year 2001, he established Sindhu Eye Hospital at Mysore, where the surgical facilities in Ophthalmology could be delivered. The penchant to reach out to the rural and needy sections of society led him to associate with the National Program for Blindness Control in 2001. He also established Sindhu Charitable Trust in 2001 to formalize and channelize the efforts of social outreach.
Jointly, Sindhu Charitable Trust and Sindhu Eye Hospital have so far conducted more than 5000 Eye screening camps.
He was associated with RSBY (Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana), one of the flagship health programs of the Government of India, from 2013 to 2018, and performed more than 5000 surgeries under the program. He has also been associated with the Yeshasvini Scheme, a flagship program of the Government of Karnataka, providing laudable services under the scheme.
Always trying to be in the forefront of the activities in the field of ophthalmology, Dr Kukke Subramanya was instrumental in Sindhu Eye Hospital becoming the first Eye Hospital in Mysore to get the coveted entry-level NABH recognition in 2018. The recognition is awarded for proving the best patient care and best institutional practices.
As a professional, Dr Kukke Subramanya has always tried to bring the best of Eye care at affordable costs to human service. He is a proficient Phaco surgeon, one of the pioneers in practicing AI-assisted SMART cataract surgery, and a leading surgeon providing specialized MICS and CICS cataract surgeries. Dr Kukke Subramanya is adept in using Toric IOLs, Progressive IOLs, Multifocal IOLs, etc., aiming to give a spectacle-free life post cataract surgery to patients. He has so far performed more than 45,000 surgeries to his credit.
Dr Kukke Subramanya has participated in various National and International conferences both as a delegate and faculty and presented various papers at these conferences.
Dr Kukke Subramanya continues to serve as a Senior Ophthalmologist at Sindhu Eye Hospital and Sindhu Eye Clinic, and at Nanjanagud – Surya Eye Clinic.
